There seems to be no symptoms that requires urgent attention. It appears sufficient to monitor the situation at home, and take your child to the hospital during regular hours.

Child’s Symptoms

  •
However, if symptoms change, please visit an emergency clinic. During holidays and New Years break, visit the emergency clinic the next day.

Nursing points when there is ear pain

  • If your child has cold symptoms and it hurts just below the earlobe or the ear opening, it may be an ear infection (otitis media). Please consult with a ear, nose and throat specialist.
  • If it hurts when pressing about 1-2 cm or more below the earlobe, your child may have swollen lymph nodes. If it is after hospital hours, it may be sufficient to wait until the next day to go see a doctor.
  • A common reason for children touching their ears when there are no cold symptoms is that earwax may cause itching or a rattling sound. Gently clear the ears of earwax using a cotton swab.
  • Check for fever frequently.
